Policy SPS5.5: Popham Garden Village

Policy box, Figure or Paragraph Number:

Dear Sirs

I wish to object to the proposed housing development at Popham Airfield, which is probably one of the most attractive airfields in southern England with unspoilt views and where one can spend leisurely summer hours enjoying the scenery, watching the flying, using the café and meeting friends with similar interests. It also holds various fly-ins and auto jumbles which are rare event these days.

Although not a pilot myself, the number of pilots that now hangar their aircraft at Popham has substantially increased over recent years and where would they go if Popham Airfield is closed? Old Sarum has virtually closed and Compton Abbas is unlikely to be able to hangar them.

The impact on the environment would be  enormous and the physical constraints of Popham’s geography re sewage, schools, medical facilities etc do not seem to make this a suitable site.
