Dear Sir / Madam
I wish to register my strong objection to the proposal for ‘Popham Garden Village’.
In my opinion this proposal is highly inappropriate and would be a disaster for the local area, for the following principal reasons:
- The airfield is a great amenity and a key asset of the local community as well as the wider national general aviation infrastructure. In addition to the mainstream aviation activities, it also hosts a significant number of businesses and puts on community and charitable events that benefit a huge number of people, for example the Sebastian’s Action Trust day in August which benefits a large number severely unwell children and their families by providing a wide range of activities on the site.
- The airfield sits in largely pristine countryside and is home to a great variety of plants and wildlife, which currently co-exist in harmony with the airfield. This proposal would inevitably destroy the vast majority of such habitats. I do not see how this proposal would in any way assist with the Government’s stated aim of improving biodiversity; indeed quite the reverse.
- There is simply not the infrastructure to support the building of new homes in this area of unspoilt countryside. In my opinion, the Council should focus on other brownfield sites where there is the opportunity to regenerate and enhance what is already a developed environment, rather than destroying acres of countryside as well as valuable community assets and amenities.
Yours faithfully
Tom Rowley
