I was applalled to read of the possibility of 3,000 houses being built at Popham airfield and wish to state my strong objection to such a plan.

I lived at Popham for a time when I first moved  to Hampshire in 1967 to work in Basingstike for the County Council. It was, and remains, a quiet and beautiful area of countryside, well wooded and with the Popham Beacons indicating its ancient history.

Such a develpment appears to go against all policies of not building on green field sites, distant from existing services with all the resultant infrastructure of roads etc.

For many years I have been part of the movement to prevent a somewhat similar development at near-by Micheldever Station on the grounds that it would ruin the green belt between Basingstoke and Winchester. I object to the Popham proposal on the same grounds.
